SERE NCOs keep McConnell Airmen trained
An American Flag and Air Mobility Command patch lay on a land navigation and evasion map Oct. 10, 2013, in Derby, Kan. Developed during World War II, these maps were used by many servicemen to escape from behind enemy lines. They include helpful information such as basic navigation routs and local plants and wildlife. This chart was used during mandatory survival, evasion, resistance and escape refresher training, given every three years for aircrew, where participants had to evade capture and navigate their way through the woods to specific points, including a simulated rescue point.
